SUMMARY OF GRANTS AWARDED, 2011


The Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation continues to fund its two large-scale signature programs this year. It also remains dedicated to the funding of numerous relatively small, yet vital programs that have improved the lives of thousands of children and families in South Florida. The foundation has awarded $9,934,936 in grants to these organizations to-date, and remains committed to supporting these programs that are critically important to the well being of our community. Including the Signature Programs commitments, the Foundation has awarded a total of $30,126,845 to date. 

 

Reaching Out to Our Community

Camillus Health Concern
Grant supports a full-time Benefits Employment Specialist to coordinate the local SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access and Recovery (SOAR) initiative.     

Casa Valentina
Grant provides for the expansion of the comprehensive, holistic Health Access and Education Program to new programs: an Aftercare Program for former residents; Emmaus Place, a residential program for young men who have aged out of foster care; and to the Mother-Baby Program.

Coral Gables Woman’s Club
May Van Sickle Children’s Dental Clinic

Grant is used exclusively for the operation of the dental clinic to provide services for indigent children of Miami-Dade County. 

Epilepsy Foundation of Florida
Grant supports the Virtual Intake and Case Management Program (VICM) by providing a Virtual Intake Specialist specializing in children and youth, as well as a Juvenile Case Manager.  
 

Florida International University
College of Nursing & Health Sciences & Health Sciences

Grant provides two (2) scholarships to students enrolled in the Nursing and Health Sciences Program.


Florida International University
Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine

Grant provides two (2) scholarships to medical students for the 2011-12 academic year.

Hearing Research Institute
Grant supports the purchase of more hearing testing equipment and/or hearing aids for needy children and adults.  

Kristi House
Grant is combined with other funders to support Project GOLD (Girls Owning their Lives and Dreams).  


Miami Lighthouse for the Blind

Grant provides funding for the Heiken Children's Vision Program in the eight schools of the DJTMF School Health Initiative.

Nova Southeastern University
College of Dental Medicine

Grant supports preventive oral health services in the North Miami Beach elementary schools.  


Open Door Health Center 
Grant supports expenses for The Open Door Health Clinic for one year.

 


Strong Women, Strong Girls
Grant expands the Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) Healthy Lifestyles and Get Active programming to 80 low-income girls in the DJTMF School Health Initiative's North Miami partner schools.

Sundari Foundation
Lotus House Women's Shelter

Grant supports two (2) counselor/resource coordinators at Lotus House.
 

Thelma Gibson Health Iniative
Grant supports the "Maximizing Health Status for at Risk Minority Seniors - A Matter of Life and Death" program.

United Cerebral Palsy Association
Grant supports a Speech Therapy program.
