SUMMARY OF GRANTS AWARDED, 2007


The Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation continues to fund its two large-scale signature programs this year.  It also remains dedicated to the funding of numerous relatively small yet vital programs that have improved the lives of thousands of children and families in South Florida. The Foundation has awarded $7,546,401 in grants to these organizations, and remains committed to supporting these programs that are critically important to the well being of our community. Including the Signature Programs, the Foundation has awarded a total of $25,920,401 since our inception.

 

Reaching Out to our Community

Barry University School of Nursing
Grant funds 10 DJTMF Leadership Scholarships to new and existing students in the Master of Science in Nursing Program specializing as Nurse Educators or Nurse Administrators.  This grant is focused on retaining/replenishing a diminishing nursing faculty.  

Casa Valentina
Funds support a nutritionist for the overweight, obese and at risk young women currently participating in the Casa Valentina program.  These are women who have aged out of foster care and are without life experience, financial stability or support they need to survive on their own. 
 

Coral Gables Junior Woman’s Club
May Van Sickle Children’s Dental Clinic

Funds are used exclusively for the operation of the dental clinic to continue to provide this service to the needy children of Miami-Dade County.
 

DuMond Conservancy
Grant expands an existing program that seeks to build capacity in Trainable Mentally Handicapped (TMH) youth so they may obtain employment in the community. 


Florida VisionQuest

Funds provide state-of-the-art corrective eyeglasses for 700 low-income Miami-Dade children.

Hep-C Alert
Grant supports an Intake Counselor for one year.  


Here's Help

Grant provides 40 treatment scholarships subsidizing sliding-scale fees and eliminating financial barriers to treatment. 


 


  


Miami Lighthouse for the Blind
Grant supports the Adult Nutrition Initiative for their diabetic clients.      
 

Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine
Grant for oral health services to public school students in the North Miami Beach feeder pattern.

Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic
Grant is used to provide salary support for an additional educational outreach position in Miami-Dade County.   
 

Sundari Foundation
Grant covers the cost of a staff mental health counselor.  The populations served are homeless women, pregnant women and infants, all living in the Lotus House.

Thelma Gibson Health Initiative
Grant expands the “Health Navigation for Low Income Minority Elders Program” in South Miami and West Coconut Grove to serve a larger segment of this population. 

University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies

Grant supports scholarships for students in a new acute care nurse practitioner program. 

Wellness Community
Funds underwrite three support groups for both cancer patients and caregivers for a one year period.
